Why Colonial?

What makes Colonial the best club on the Street is that its membership experience is built around genuine community, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging. Being a sign-in club allows us to bring together people from different backgrounds, interests, and social circles who might not have otherwise crossed paths. As one of the first clubs to move away the bicker selection process, as well as being the first club to admit women, we have operated on the idea that being in a community should never be founded on exclusivity. At Colonial, you don't have to fit a certain mold or pass tests to feel like you belong.

From spontaneous conversations over meals to club traditions, social events, and everyday moments spent together, Colonial offers an environment where friendships develop naturally and members feel comfortable being themselves. There's a difference between simply having access to a club and genuinely feeling at home in one, and that's what makes the Colonial experience special. We're a community where everyone has the opportunity to find their people.

What does social life look like at Colonial?

Social life at Colonial is really what you make of it!

We host a variety of events throughout the week that give members opportunities to hang out, meet new people, and build friendships. Beyond our weekly study breaks, we host Pub Night every Thursday, where members can enjoy beer, pub-style food, trivia, crosswords, and board games, and Wine Night every Friday, a members-only dinner where people can unwind, enjoy some wine, and catch up with friends. These members-only spaces are especially important to us because they give our community a chance to connect beyond the bigger events on the Street.

We also host bigger events like: Colo Speakeasy, a more laid-back Saturday night social; Colonial Casino Night, where we bring in a huge selection of casino games; Hotel Colonial, where the third floor of the house becomes a room-hopping opportunity for members; Multicultural Night, where we celebrate our community through food from different cuisines, outdoor barbecues, and games; and more upbeat dance parties traditionally referred to as TCIFs (Thank Colo It’s Friday).

Throughout the semester, we have two semiformals and an end-of-semester formal, giving everyone opportunities to dress up and enjoy some of the most memorable nights at Colonial.

Even outside organized events, there's always something to do at the club, whether that's playing pool, ping pong, or foosball in our game room, playing frisbee, football, volleyball, or badminton on our lawn with our wide selection of sports equipment, grabbing a board game from our collection, or watching movies and playing video games in our theater. Ultimately, what makes Colonial's social life special is that it's shaped by its members. Whether you're someone who loves going out, prefers smaller gatherings, or wants to bring an entirely new event idea to life, our officers, staff, and fellow members are always excited to make it happen. We're constantly looking to expand our social programming, and we especially value members who want to get involved and contribute to the community. At Colonial, you don't just participate in the social life of the club; you have the opportunity to help create it.

What’s the food experience at Colonial?

We might be biased, but we genuinely believe Colonial has some of the best food on the Street! Our incredible kitchen staff, led by a head chef who's been with us for over two decades, puts so much care into making sure there's something for everyone. Every lunch, our grill is open for made-to-order meals, alongside a wide selection of meat, fish, vegetarian, and vegan options. We also have an extensive salad bar, fresh fruit, soups, a smoothie station, and desserts that are always worth saving room for! For drinks, we have everything from hot coffee and cold brew to milk on tap and a variety of juices. Beyond the food itself, what makes our dining experience special is how responsive our kitchen is to members. Whether you have dietary restrictions, special requests, or suggestions for the menu, our chef's door is always open, and our kitchen staff genuinely tries to accommodate everyone. At Colonial, great food isn't just a perk of membership; it's something you get to look forward to every day.
